ANCHOKO — hide any diagram, then learn it
Image occlusion on your phone, free. Drop boxes over the labels on an anatomy plate, a circuit drawing or a map, and each box becomes its own card.
IMAGE OCCLUSION THAT ACTUALLY WORKS ON A PHONE
• Draw rectangles, ellipses or free-form shapes over any picture
• Each shape becomes a separate card, so one diagram teaches you twenty things
• Pinch to zoom while you place shapes — small labels stay reachable
• Show the other boxes while you answer, or hide them
• Works on photos, screenshots, textbook scans and imported PDF pages
BRING YOUR ANKI DECKS
• Import .apkg files and keep your cards, your images and your deck names
• Cloze deletions come across as cloze deletions
• Image occlusion notes keep their boxes, on the right part of the picture
• Note types ANCHOKO does not know are still imported, front and back — nothing is lost
• You are told what changed during the import. No silent edits
PHOTOGRAPH A PAGE, GET CARDS
• Photograph notes, a textbook or a handout and the text is read on your device
• Cards follow the page layout — "term: meaning", "word translation", numbered lists
• You see the recognised text before any card is made, so misreads never become cards
RED AND COLOURED TEXT, FOUND FOR YOU
• Anything written in red pen or pink highlighter is detected and covered automatically
• Switch to green, blue or yellow when that is what you used
• Popular with students in Japan, who use a red filter sheet for exactly this
REVIEW AT THE RIGHT MOMENT
• The SM-2 algorithm works out, card by card, when you are about to forget
• Four ratings — Again, Hard, Good, Easy — reshape the interval
• See your forgetting curve and how much is left
• Cap how many new cards appear each day
HANDS-FREE BROWSING
Cards flip themselves at timings you choose, with read-aloud for commutes. Auto-advance never grades your cards, so your review schedule stays intact.
• Also: cloze deletions, and annotations written straight onto a picture
YOUR PHOTOS STAY ON YOUR DEVICE
Text recognition, red-text detection and PDF rendering all happen on your device. Photos and PDFs never reach an ANCHOKO server.
