OpenShelf for iPhone and iPad is the private, focused companion to OpenShelf for macOS. A Mac running OpenShelf is required to create and manage your library and enable iCloud Library.
BROWSE YOUR WHOLE LIBRARY
Explore all books or browse by Authors, Series, and Genres. Smart Collections make it easy to find books you are reading, saved to your Wish List, coming soon, recently added, or still unread. Search stays on your device and a library-size summary gives every view context.
KEEP READING STATE CURRENT
View covers and Book Info, move between nearby books with a swipe, and update Reading Status or Wish List from iPhone or iPad. Those personal changes synchronize through your private iCloud database.
OPEN YOUR BOOKS
Download a published primary EPUB or PDF on demand. PDFs open in the system preview. EPUBs are handed to the iOS Open In picker so you can choose Apple Books or another compatible app. OpenShelf is a library manager, not an integrated reader, and does not remove DRM.
YOUR LIBRARY, YOUR ICLOUD
OpenShelf has no central library server, ads, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking. Catalog records, covers, personal reading state, and Mac-published primary files use your private CloudKit database when you enable iCloud Library. A local database keeps browsing responsive on each device.
MAC-ONLY LIBRARY MANAGEMENT
Importing EPUB/PDF or read-only Calibre libraries, editing metadata and covers, managing files, and optional provider-backed research remain intentionally on the Mac.
Requires OpenShelf for macOS and the same iCloud account on each device.
