MonitGPS RECCE is a dedicated safety app for rally competitors, used during official pre-event route reconnaissance ("recce"). It is provided by rally organizers to registered competitors for a specific event — access requires a start code issued for that event, not a public sign-up.
What the app does, screen by screen:
- Login screen — enter the start code given by the organizer, or scan it as a QR code with the built-in scanner. No separate username/password.
- One-time setup — grants the location, notification, and battery permissions the app needs to keep working reliably while the phone is mounted in the car for the whole recce session.
- Main screen — a live, full-screen map centered on your current GPS position, showing the event's special stages and connecting road sections (liaisons), plus a status indicator confirming whether your position is currently being transmitted. A "Find me" button re-centers the map if you pan it manually. A visible on-screen reminder tells competitors to always follow the official Road Book — the map is a safety aid, not a turn-by-turn navigation tool.
- Background transmission — your GPS position is sent continuously to the organizer's safety-tracking server, including while the screen is locked or the app is in the background, so the event's safety service always knows where you are.
- Menu — "Finish RECC" ends the session, stops all location transmission, and logs out.
What data we send:
- GPS position, speed, and time — only during an active recce session.
- Recipient: the rally organizer's safety-tracking server. Data is not passed on to any other party.
Who it's for:
Rally drivers and co-drivers taking part in an event that uses MonitGPS for safety tracking during recce. Each competitor receives their own start code from the event organizer before recce begins; the app is not intended for general public use outside of that context. An account/code is valid on one phone at a time.
