Backyard Chickens replaces the notebook by the coop door with a real egg log, flock manager, and breed advisor built for keepers who actually collect eggs every morning. Log every egg by flock or by hen, watch your laying trends over time, and get plain-English answers about breeds, coop sizing, and molt timing whenever you need them.
Keeping chickens generates more numbers than most people expect — egg counts, feed costs, molt cycles, and which hen actually earns her keep. Backyard Chickens turns that into a simple daily habit instead of a notebook full of half-remembered tallies, so the fifteen seconds it takes to log this morning's eggs actually adds up to something useful by the end of the season.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Egg log — record every egg collected, by flock or per individual hen
• Multiple flocks — track separate flocks with their own birds, notes, and egg history
• Per-hen records — breed, age, and production history for each bird, not just a flock total
• Laying trends — see production rates, a producer ranking for every hen, and upcoming molt forecasts built from your own log
• Breed library — reference details on common backyard chicken breeds before you add new birds
• AI coop & breed advisor — ask which breeds fit your climate and how to size your coop, with guidance only, never veterinary advice
• Feed & cost tracking — see your real cost per egg, not just a guess
• Flock notes — coop location, temperament, and care routines saved right on each flock
• Full history at a glance — days logged and eggs collected over any stretch of time, per flock or per bird
WHY BACKYARD CHICKENS
• Built around the daily habit — logging today's eggs takes seconds, not a trip to find a notebook
• Real trends, not just totals — molt forecasts and laying-rate charts come from your own history, not a generic chart
• Per-hen detail when you want it — know which bird is actually productive and which has slowed down
• Advisor that knows your setup — breed and coop guidance factors in your climate and flock size
• Cost clarity — feed tracking turns "how much does this hobby cost" into an actual number
WHO IT'S FOR
• Backyard keepers with one flock who want a simple daily egg log
• Growing operations managing several flocks and dozens of birds
• New keepers choosing their first breeds and sizing a coop for the first time
• Anyone who wants to know their real cost per egg instead of estimating it
• Anyone who has ever wondered which hen actually stopped laying and when
Backyard Chickens' advisor gives general husbandry guidance, not veterinary advice — for a sick or injured bird, always consult a poultry vet. For the daily routine, it's the egg log, the flock records, and the laying trends that turn keeping chickens into something you actually understand instead of guess at.
