Planning to see the northern lights in Iceland? Aurora Iceland gives you a real-time, science-backed answer to three simple questions: Can I see aurora tonight? Where should I go? When should I look?
REAL-TIME AURORA SCORES
Every 5 minutes, our algorithm crunches live data from NOAA satellites, cloud forecasts, solar wind measurements, and darkness calculations to score every viewing spot across Iceland from 0 to 100. No guesswork—just clear, color-coded scores that tell you exactly how likely you are to see aurora right now.
INTERACTIVE MAP
See every viewing spot on the map, color-coded by current aurora probability. Toggle cloud cover and aurora activity overlays to understand conditions at a glance. Community sightings appear as live photo markers—see where people are spotting aurora right now.
SMART ALERTS
Set a one-tap alert and get notified when conditions turn good at your location. Our alerts are tuned to be conservative—we'd rather miss a notification than send you a false alarm.
12-HOUR FORECASTS
Hourly breakdowns for every spot show you exactly when conditions will peak tonight. Plan your drive, time your arrival, and know the best viewing window before you leave.
COMMUNITY SIGHTINGS
Join thousands of aurora hunters sharing real-time sighting photos. See what others are capturing, where they're seeing aurora, and validate the forecast with real eyes on the ground. Like, comment, and connect with fellow travelers.
AURORA HUNT GAME
Turn your aurora photos into points. Our AI detects the colors in your aurora photos and awards points based on rarity:
• Green aurora: 1 point (most common)
• Multi-color (green + purple): 2 points
• Rare colors (red or blue): 3 points
Capture all three tiers in one night for a Full Sweep bonus. Compete in weekly tournaments, climb the leaderboard, and earn achievement badges.
AURORA TOURS
Browse and compare aurora tours from Iceland's top operators. See real-time aurora scores for each tour region, filter by type (bus, super jeep, boat, private), and find deals with promo codes. Every tour shows tonight's aurora odds so you book with confidence.

Every one of our 104 viewing spots includes safety notes, parking details, light pollution levels, and driving context. From Reykjavik's Grótta lighthouse to remote Melrakkaslétta in the far north—we've mapped the best aurora viewing locations across the entire country.
